GOA Sports Day Archbishop Lanfranc School
Sunday 26th August 2007
Another successful Sports Day attended by around 1200 people. Special thanks go to Peter Rodrigues and his dedicated band of helpers, some of whom were on the ground from the early hours of the morning in preparation for the event. Appreciation too goes to the gate volunteers who as always did a great job. All events were keenly contested and in the right spirit. Jacinto Fernandes and Tony D’Costa ensured that all events ran on time, culminating in the finale: Tug of War. The winners of the Ladies Tug of War took on the winners of the men’s event… the Men having won the first pull easily thought victory over the weaker sex, was a given.. but wait for it ….Superwoman Elvira to the rescue using her initiative as we ladies often do, propelled all available girls and ladies from all over the ground, to rally to the aid of the ladies team. So with the aid of an extra 30 or so ladies, the Ladies team reigned supreme! The evening was finely rounded up with the disco. List of Prize donors and results is attached. The Sports Director Fidelis D'Mello is considering revamping this event to widen its appeal to members of the Goan community here in the UK.
