MISSING GOAN TEENAGER - JONATHAN MARQUES

Many children and even adults go missing in the UK and many return or are found safe.  The news first broke on the Goan Voice online newsletter about a missing Goan teenager who disappeared on his way school. It was heart-breaking to read that Jonathan Marques, a 15 year old, much loved son and brother from a close-knit family, has been missing from 6 January this year in Reading.

The Goan Voice has kept its readers updated with news – his devastated family, friends and even the community are actively looking for him. Thames Valley Police have spared no effort in trying to locate him and have provided considerable support to the grief-stricken family.

Last Friday, 23 January, the Goan Association (UK) together with the Goan Chaplain - Fr Francis Rosario SFX and the Assistant Priest at SS Peter & Paul, Mitcham – Fr Peter Soares SFX, organised a poignant and beautiful service to pray for Jonathan’s safe return to his family.  Joining the 100-plus congregation were 15 members of Jonathan’s immediate family and relatives.  The latter all wore white shirts depicting Jonathan’s picture with two of them carrying a large “missing” banner with his picture and details of how to contact the Police if he is sighted.  Also present were the London representatives of CNN-IBN News Channel, who filmed the service and conducted interviews in order to give as much coverage as possible to their viewers.  A report and video can also be located within the Goan Voice news items of 24 January.

On behalf of the Goan Association (UK), President - Flavio Gracias, assured Jonathan’s parents, family and supporters, that we will actively give whatever assistance is necessary and follow up progress with Thames Valley Police.  We understand that the Police have deliberately avoided giving this case national coverage at the present time, to allow them to concentrate the search around the Reading area – but the Goan Association (UK) will keep in touch with the police and will endeavour to offer any help requested to maximise the search.

We request all our readers as well to pray that Jonathan Marques returns home safely to the bosom of his beloved family. Your prayers are also needed for his dear family so this sad episode reaches a joyful closure.
